I got my COVID-19 vaccination (dose 1) this afternoon. The state of Washington’s DOH Vaccine Locations website has been adding sites in recent days, and I got in on the first day of Tier 1B (age 65+) appointments at Seattle’s famed Fred Hutchinson research center. Saw the site listed this morning, made my appointment, and off I went.
The place was busy but not super-crowded. Most of those in line were geezers Boomers like me, with a smattering of younger people; they might have been healthcare/essential workers or people with serious risk factors. In all, it took me about an hour and a quarter, including the 15 minutes of sitting around in case of immediate side effects, anaphylaxis, and the like. That’s why there’s a clock/timer in the above photo.
I also took a selfie. Sorry about its blurriness.
At the same time, my wife had a scheduled visit with her doctor, at a clinic associated with a regional hospital system. She’s not quite eligible for Tier 1B, as she turns 65 in July. Still, while there she asked the doctor about when she might be able to get her shot. “Funny you should ask,” said the doc. “We just started doing vaccinations today, and hardly anyone knows we’re up and running.” Turns out that they still had 10 doses available to be administered, and that nine of them already had patients to take them. So, because she was right there, my wife got her COVID-19 shot today too!
President Biden has promised that 100 million vaccinations will be administered in his first 100 days in the White House. With my wife and me accounted for, he’s well on the way to fulfilling that promise!
PS. I got the Pfizer vaccine, she got the Moderna. My second dose is already scheduled, at 2pm on February 10. Her clinic hasn’t yet set up their appointment system for dose 2, so she only has a range of potential dates (something like February 17-20).
PPS. No pain or discomfort yet, little to none anticipated.
